My #1 Easy Tip For Styling Jeans + T-Shirts Right Now

May 22, 2021 3 min read 3 Comments

The other day, I had a long talk with a friend about vaccines. My friend is a doctor and to my great surprise vehemently argued against vaccines.

But his argument made a lot of sense. In a nutshell, he said that strong, healthy cells are much less likely to be attacked by viruses, and that high quality supplements & nutrition as well as a healthy lifestyle help create such strong cells almost equally well as vaccines.

In fact his argument was so convincing that I was almost persuaded. In the end, however, I chickened out and got the vaccine anyway. I figured a two-pronged approach (as in: healthy-ish lifestyle + vaccine) would be even better!

For those of us who welcome being vaccinated this means we can feel comfortable going out again!

Since I mentioned comfort I have to admit that before last year, if a skirt was a little tight one night, or a pair of pants, I certainly would not let that get in my way. If I had to, I would suck in my belly through an entire dinner and still have fun!

These days I’ve heard from so many of you - and I feel the same way: we want above all else COMFORT in everything we wear.

Things can be a little tricky because of that requirement. For example, many of us - myself included - didn’t feel like wearing denim in the past year. Most jeans are not exactly constricting but just the fact that they are tight rather than loose has made us not want to put them on.

Right now though, denim is way up in popularity again because it's classic, versatile, and a big step up from sweatpants yet it still feels casual.

Speaking of versatile, I'd love to share with you my favorite tip of the moment for accessorizing an everyday jeans and T-shirt (or button down) combo in a fresh way (courtesy of one of my favorite influencers, Veronika Heilbrunner).

The genius here is that this style trick manages to do two things at once. For one, it takes an everyday outfit out of the ordinary without being fussy. Two: add a blazer and switch your shoes and bag, and you’ve created an easy yet stunning going out outfit.

Note how Veronika wears a top that is a bit more heavy in weight than a regular T-Shirt for a slightly dressier feel. Her accessories are half earthy, half elegant, and also just a tad on the chunkier side.

This creates a balance that works for both day and evening - the earthy feel resonates with your daytime outfit (above) and at the same time dresses down more elegant evening pieces to the level of your denim (below).

Perhaps you’re lucky - like me - and already own one of those slightly more substantial pieces. If not, then I would love to share with you a few pieces that would create a similar effect.

The trick is to pick pieces that have several colors in them to take your tried & trusted jeans and T-shirt in a new direction. This works equally well whether you want to go for neutral or bold colors.

I've found that to create that relaxed and earthy yet chic feel beads - small, big, glass, plastic, metal - work better than most crystals that can easily feel a little too dressed up.

Last word of advice here: if you’re on the chesty side I’d recommend going for a short necklace or choker style instead of a longer piece.

In any case, I highly recommend you give this styling tip a try - it’s so fun and rewarding to give a trusted outfit a new spin!

Thank you so much for the tips! I don’t really feel like I have any intention or purpose to my accessories and I want to but just didn’t know how. This gives me a framework to work with!!
